Food is both a matter of sustenance and of cultural expression. During this pandemic, for those who have access to enough, food can be a source of comfort, as we indulge in foods that soothe us, or perhaps even over-indulge. At the same time, obtaining food during the lockdowns that are happening around the world, can be scary and difficult, even as such forays to obtain groceries may be the sole venture in the outside world that many of us make.  The larger threat to food security that this pandemic creates, also looms, as food shortages are already beginning to take place.

This Chapter on Food in the Time of Covid-19 will have numerous subchapters to consider. We begin with an account of the scene on Parisian streets. Check back for more subchapters (forthcoming).
